5 Homeowner New Year Resolutions
2017 is almost here! Have you already made your resolutions that you will break by February? Everyone does it!
As a homeowner, here are some resolutions you might want to think about keeping to get the most out of your home:
1. Pay off More of your Mortgage
If you have some extra money this year, you might want to up your mortgage payments. In the end, you'll end up paying less interest and owning your home sooner than expected. Make a budget if you don't have one already, and see where you can take some money from to add to your mortgage.
2. Check Out Refinancing Options
With a new president in office, the economy will shift and interest rates may rise. So now is the time to refinance your mortgage. Check with your loan officer for options.
3. Review/Renew Homeowners Insurance
You could save some real money here! Get quotes from different insurance companies ~ some companies will even match the lowest quote. Also, if you haven't already, look into bundling your auto and homeowners insurance ; you might get a discount. If you've made any changes to your home that would affect how your home is insured (storm reinforcements, clearing trees, adding security systems), let your agent know. This could also lower your payments.
4. Clean and Declutter!
Get rid of junk! The New Year is a great time to start fresh. Cluttered homes can create unneeded stress and anxiety. Really take a good look at your stuff, and get rid of anything you don't need or use.
5. Make Sure your Home is Safe
Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Check for radon. Test your water. Go over emergency plans with your family.Stay safe.
