6 Steps To Furnishing Your New Home In Rochester

So you just moved to Rochester? You can’t expect to call your new house a home if it lacks the personal comforts you want. Without the right furnishings and accessories your house is just an empty shell. Deciding how to furnish your new home can seem overwhelming when you’re staring at blank walls. Here are six tips to help you furnish your new digs:

1.       Take Inventory- Before you start your shopping list for new furnishings, clean house. Go through all of your belongings that you have at your current home, then organize into boxes which items you will keep, toss, or donate.
2.       Collect Your Thoughts- Once your keep collection has dwindled to the size you are satisfied with you will be able to determine your personal style (if you haven’t already) more easily. Go through magazines, browse the internet, and most importantly- check out Pinterest to get inspiration for bringing your personal style into your new home. When you’re ready to window shop, measure your new house so you have knowledge about what will fit! If you are confined to smaller spaces, do not fall in love with furniture that will look crammed into a specific area. Don’t impulse buy! Take time to test and compare the durability of your purchases. Sit down, lie down, recline, and maybe take home a color swatch to see if you still like the fabric one you’re home.
3.       Choose a Color Palette- Color can set the tone of your home’s personality. If you already own artwork or a rug, or if you will have a fantastic view at your new crib, choose a hue from that element and carry it throughout the room is associates with. Not everything needs to match, but it will be more budget savvy to choose neutral furnishings, and use pillows and throws as accents colors so they can easily be switched out to compliment paint color changes.
4.       Go for Quality, Not Quantity- When you start shopping, go for high-quality furniture that will last longer and be comfortable for years to come. Design trends come and go, so stick to classic simple lines that are timeless.
5.       Add Accessories- Accessories add personality to rooms. Mirrors, mantels, plants, clocks, carpets, and area rugs are often overlooked but can make a huge impact in a room’s décor. Draw attention to a couch by hanging artwork overhead or arranging seating around it. Give you bed some WOW-Factor and play up the bedding with matching sheets, comforters, and pillows. You can really shine a spotlight on furnishings with creative lighting as well.
6.       Be Patient- Don’t buy everything all at once, even if your budget can afford it! Start small with what you have, one room at a time to make sure you are happy with each purchase and that you have the space available.
Keep in mind that when you make the investment in a house, you should plan on living there for a while. So give yourself time to get settled in. Furniture shopping should be fun, so don’t rush it!
