HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS
With all of the tricks and treats in store, keep in mind that this can also be a hazardous time as well. Here are some tips to keep you and your kids safe this Halloween.
Wear costumes that are bright and easily seen or use reflective tape to help increase your visibility.
Make sure that costumes and shoes fit well to prevent tripping.
Consider face-paint/makeup rather than masks that can limit or block eyesight.
Avoid wearing decorative contact lenses, they can be damaging to eyes.
Ensure that a parent or responsible adult accompanies younger children on their neighborhood rounds.
If your older children are going on their own, go over the route they will take and establish a curfew.
Bring flashlights with fresh batteries.
Tell your kids to stick together. They should only go to homes with their lights on, and NEVER go inside a home or car.
Carry a cellphone for quick communication. Teach kids how to dial 911 in case of an emergency.
Stick to well-lit streets and on the sidewalks. Don’t cut across yards or use alleys.
Don’t assume the right away. Motorists don’t always see trick-or-treaters and just because one might stop, others may not.
