Summer in Rochester MN is a very popular time to shop for a house. Selling in the summer does however have its difficulties especially with the heat. Here are a few tips to make selling sweat proof:
Be Cool- The most important tip: keep the temperature of your home cool and comfortable. Make sure that your air conditioning and fans are on during showings. Keeping the air moving ensures that the atmosphere is not stale and muggy. When people come to look at your house in the summer, they are hot and thirsty, so have water bottles available when they come through.
Be Flexible- While many buyers are actively seeking homes during summertime, they are also busier than ever. Many people have vacation plans conflicting their schedules. Children are out of school and have parents running to and from summer sports, swimming lessons, and playdates. It pays to be flexible about when you can show your home. People might say that they can't come on a weekend because they are away, but they can do a Monday night at 7. You might think 'Ugh,' but it's best to be accommodating.
Be Neat- Making sure your home is clutter free is tough for sellers, especially with kids home from school.  Pets shed more during the summer and everything smells worse. Keep after the dust bunnies and take your garbage out often. Power wash windows, decks, and siding where dirt is more noticeable during summer. Cut back bushes, trim trees, and water/mow lawn as needed.
Be Festive- Make sure your outdoor spaces are welcoming. You want to showcase you outdoor space so that buyers envision themselves enjoying the space during the summer months. Replace worn out patio furniture and purchase new cushions and throws.
Be Light- Lighting is crucial when selling a home. Swap out heavy linens and drapes for lighter sheer fabrics. It may be habitual during the summer to keep lights off for a cooling effect, but if you’re selling you want to keep your house as well lit as possible.
